The Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) 2026 has concluded as a record-breaking success, solidifying its position as the premier gathering for the global aerospace, defence, and space industries. From ground-breaking commercial agreements to revolutionary technological demonstrations, the event highlighted an sector firmly focused on innovation, sustainability, and long-term growth.
Commercial aviation dominated the order books, generating an extraordinary $84.7 billion in business throughout the week. Aircraft manufacturers secured 353 firm commercial orders, while the propulsion sector saw massive investment with 904 firm engine orders placed across major industry leaders, including Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, LEAP, and Pratt & Whitney. Reflecting the robust health of the global market, the airshow welcomed a staggering 141,580 trade and public visitors from 136 countries, representing a massive 41% increase over the previous show.
Beyond commercial airliners, defence capabilities and next-generation aviation took centre stage. Industry leaders such as BAE Systems, MBDA, and Anduril Industries unveiled cutting-edge defence technologies, while Vertical Aerospace achieved a historic milestone by completing the first public flight of its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, seamlessly transitioning between helicopter mode and fixed-wing flight before a live audience. Adding to the visual spectacle, the UAE National Air Display Team, Fursan Al Emarat, made their Farnborough debut with a precision seven-aircraft display.
The airshow also served as a vital forum for high-level policy and industrial engagement, drawing attendance from senior UK government representatives, including the Secretary of State for Defence, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, and the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade. Looking to the future of the industrial base, the sold-out Pioneers of Tomorrow programme engaged thousands of students with interactive exhibits and STEM career pathways. As Farnborough International CEO Gareth Rogers noted, the event once again demonstrated what can be achieved when the global aerospace community comes together with clear purpose.
